Black Light Illuminator: Toy of the Year Finalist


black-light-01SchultzeWORKS designstudio ( of Santa Monica, CA is proud to announce their design for the ‘Black Light Illuminator’ has been nominated for the prestigious ‘Toy of the Year’ honor by the TIA (Toy Industry Association) jury. Created for Educational Insights® of Gardena, CA the Black Light Illuminator is part of the ‘Nancy B’s Science Club® ‘ line, focused on STEM-learning and scientific exploration. This design is SchultzeWORKS’ third Toy of the Year nomination in the last four years. The product has also been awarded the Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Platinum Seal Award for 2015.

The Toy of the Year voting process now allows input from consumers, as well as voting by by TIA members, retailers, journalists, bloggers and academics. Up until January 17, 2016, you can cast your vote at the website. The winners will be announced in New York on February 12th.

The Black Light Illuminator is a science sleuthing activity kit. It encourages scientific exploration as users collect and observe rocks, insects, and flowers that glow under black light, make gelatin that glows, and learn counterfeit money detection, encrypting codes and ciphers, and more. The kit also includes journaling activities, providing lessons in hands-on forensic science.

Nancy Balter, the force at Educational Insights behind the ever-growing line of products, is a former science teacher with an MA in Education.
